Alpha® PVA QC Style — Quick-Change Dry Polishing Discs
The Alpha® PVA QC "Quick Change" System is a low-speed version of the original PVA MS style, designed to run on an aluminum snail-lock backer plate developed for low-speed polishing tools such as the Alpha AIR-680. The discs snail-lock straight into the SFAT adapter, so grit changes take seconds. PVA QC delivers a beautiful, wax-free finish on glass tile, marble, limestone, travertine and stainless steel.

- Mount the Alpha® PVA-5/8 backer pad (5/8"-11 thread, sold separately) onto your low-speed polisher or variable-speed grinder.
- Snap a PVA QC disc into the SFAT snail-lock adapter.
- Run DRY only — never use water; PVA acts like a sponge and will expand if wet.
- Polish in sequence: White (40) → Red (80) → Blue (220) → Green (400) → Yellow (600). Do not skip grits.
- Keep speed at or below 4,000 RPM — on a variable-speed tool set it to the lower range.
- No buffing compound or wax is required — the Yellow (600) wheel leaves a high-gloss finish on its own.

Can I use water while polishing with PVA?
No. PVA QC is designed for dry polishing only. Water causes the PVA to act like a sponge and expand, which is dangerous and can cause the wheel to disintegrate.
Can I polish granite with PVA QC?
No. PVA is intended for softer materials like marble, travertine and onyx. Granite's density causes the wheels to overheat and melt. For granite, use Alpha's Ceramica or Ceramica EX wet systems.
What is the grit sequence?
White (40), Red (80), Blue (220), Green (400), Yellow (600). Each higher grit removes the scratches from the previous one.
Can I skip grits?
No. Skipping grits lengthens processing time, shortens abrasive life, and usually leaves an unsatisfactory finish.
What is the maximum RPM?
4,000 RPM. Use only low-speed polishers, or variable-speed grinders set to 4,000 RPM or lower.
Do I need buffing compound or wax to finish?
No. A key advantage of PVA QC is that it leaves a beautiful, high-gloss finish without any compound or wax.
How do I mount the PVA QC discs?
Thread the Alpha PVA-5/8 backer pad (sold separately) onto your tool. The backer has 5/8"-11 threads and a built-in SFAT snail-lock adapter; the PVA QC wheel snail-locks straight into it.
Can I run PVA QC on a high-speed grinder?
No. 4,000 RPM is the maximum. For high-speed dry polishing, use Alpha PVA VP or PVA MS.
Which tools is PVA QC compatible with?
Any variable-speed tool that can run at or below 4,000 RPM. Common compatible models: Makita 9207 SPC, Bosch 9250, AEG WP1900, Milwaukee 5460 / 5540 / 5455 / 5535, and Alpha AIR-680.
Can I buy single wheels instead of a box of five?
Yes. The SPVAQC… part numbers are single discs. Boxes of 5 (PVAQC…) and a 5-piece assortment kit (PVAQCK) are also available.
Does PVA work on metal?
Yes. PVA was originally designed for the metal industry and works very well on stainless steel and many other metals.
Can I use PVA on glass?
Yes. After cutting or scoring glass, use the Red and Blue PVA QC discs to ease the edges.
Does the backer pad come in other arbor sizes?
Yes — call us for availability of optional arbor sizes.
What is the small bag inside each wheel pack?
A silica-gel desiccant to prevent moisture absorption during storage.
